About us
What we aim to achieve
Nurture Chinese Fluency Across Generations
Chinese is more than a language - it is a connection to family, culture and history. Yet, life in Sydney makes it increasingly difficult to pass this down.
We see the impact clearly: fluency fades within a single generation, conversations between children and grandparents become limited and traditions risk becoming symbolic rather than lived.
Big Tree Language was established to change that. We empower students to develop genuine fluency, cultural intimacy, and a deeper sense of connection, transforming Chinese from a token second language into a meaningful part of their lives.
How are we different
Our educational philosophy
Many language programs treat learning Chinese like an academic subject, developing technical proficiency within the classroom but rarely integrating it into students’ lives.
At BigTree Language, we believe aptitude develops when language becomes emotionally meaningful, physically lived, and socially reinforced. Not just studied once a week, but naturally used to communicate, think, and connect with the world around us.
This philosophy shapes the three pillars of our unique approach:
Mastery
Strong foundations remain essential. Our programs combine internationally recognised Chinese language frameworks and modern teaching methodologies to help students build confidence across speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Meaning
Language is retained more deeply when it is personally relevant. We make Chinese engaging, contextual, and culturally connected, moving beyond memorisation and English associations towards an intuitive feel of the language.
Momentum
Lasting proficiency requires consistent exposure and use beyond the classroom. We foster an environment where Chinese becomes part of everyday life through community, cultural participation, and regular real-world use.
We remind ourselves of our educational philosophy through our name “BigTree”. This was inspired by the phrase 十年樹木, 百年樹人: “it takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to nurture a person.” This embodies our belief that strong foundations take time, but once deeply rooted, growth continues naturally over generations.
